Elderly Nutrition

Persons 60 years of age and older and their spouses may participate in the elderly nutrition program in Siouxland. In Sioux City, meals are served Tuesday-Thursday at Riverside Lutheran Church, 1817 Riverside Blvd.; on Monday at Riverside Gardens' Community Room, 715 Bruner Ave., Fairmount Park, 210 S. Fairmount St., and Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1522 Douglas St.

A suggested contribution is $2.75 or what each person can afford without causing a financial hardship.

Reservations are required a day in advance by calling the Sergeant Bluff site, 943-5356; and Mount Olive site, 255-5465, or the Siouxland Aging Services nutrition office at 279-6900, ext. 15. For more information about other available meal sites, call Siouxland Aging Services at 279-6900.

Monday: Salisbury steak or chicken pattie, baked potato with sour cream, California mixed vegetables, pineapple tidbits

Tuesday: Cook's choice

Wednesday: BBQ chicken on a bun, potato salad, peas, gelatin cubes with topping, fresh apple

Thursday: Baked fish or hamburger pattie, parsley potatoes, broccoli, lettuce salad with dressing, bread pudding

Friday: Roast pork and dressing or boneless chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, pears

Siouxland Center for Active Generations

Siouxland Center, 313 Cook St., is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Weekly classes, programs:

Monday: Beginner tap class, 9 a.m.; experienced tap class, 9:45 a.m.; duplicate bridge, 11:30 a.m.; movie "It's a Wonderful Life," pinochle, woodcarving, 1 p.m.; fitness with Kelly, 2 p.m.

Tuesday: Penny bingo, 8:30 a.m.; stretch and flex/yoga, intermed. Spanish, 9 a.m.; painting class, 9:30 a.m.; advanced Spanish, creative writing, walking off the pounds, 10 a.m.; beginners Spanish, 11 a.m.; pitch, 12:30 p.m.; painting class, tap practice, 1 p.m.; zumba, 2 p.m.

Wednesday: Silvertones, 8:30 a.m.; yoga with John, 9 a.m.; chorus, 9:15 a.m.; talk show, "Senior Driving Questions and Answers," 10:30 a.m.; drama group, 10:45 p.m.; bridge, 12:30 p.m.; yoga, 1:45 p.m.; fitness with Kelly, 3 p.m.; duplicate bridge, 6 p.m.

Thursday: Penny bingo, 8:30 a.m.; walking off the pounds, 9 a.m.; stretch flex/yoga, Men's Club, beg. line dance, music theory, 10 a.m.; advanced line dance, beginning German, 11 a.m.; inter. beg. line dance, noon; advanced German (1-2), woodcarving, bridge group, cribbage, 1 p.m.; mod. adv. line dance, 1:30 p.m.

Friday: Fitness with Sandy, 9:30 a.m.; blood pressures, 10 a.m.; bridge group, noon; bridge & 500, scrabble, dance with Big River Country, 1 p.m. (jam session Saturday)

Monday: Beef stroganoff, green beans, ice cream

Tuesday: BBQ pork on a bun, potato wedges, chocolate pudding

Wednesday: Homemade lasagna, garlic bread, Calif. blend vegetables, cookies

Thursday: Hot ham and cheese on a bun, tater tots, rice krispie bars

Friday: Chicken noodle soup, ham and swiss hoagie, brownies

South Sioux City senior center

The South Sioux City Senior Center, 1501 W. 29th St.; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. office hours Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. services Monday through Friday.

Activities: 9 a.m. senior bowling at Harmony Lanes, Monday; 11 a.m. Card Club, Monday and Friday; 9 a.m. billiards tournaments, second, third, and fourth Tuesday; 1 p.m. line dance lessons with Arlene Whalen, Tuesday; 10 a.m. music by Erwin and Marguerite O'Neill and Elsie Brown, Thursday; 7 p.m. jam session by Sonny Woten, Friday.

A daily meal is served from noon to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pre-registration the day before is appreciated. Suggested donation is $3 per meal for persons 60 and over, and $5 for persons under 60. Take-outs available (same donation rate as eat-in meals). Home-delivered meals at $3.60. Prefer advance notice, call 494-1500.

Home-delivered meals are available in South Sioux City, Dakota City and surrounding area to elderly and handicapped persons. Menu and newsletter available monthly.

North Sioux City senior center

North Sioux City Senior Service Center, 114 Main St., office hours Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dakota Senior Meals prepared on site and served noon to 1 p.m. five days a week for persons age 60 or over and their spouses. These individuals are eligible at a suggested donation of $3 per meal. Individuals under age 60 are more than welcome at $6.60 per meal. Home delivered and take-out meals are available (donation rate same as eat-in meals) for those confined to their home or have a temporary illness. The Center serves North Sioux City and the immediate surrounding area. Reservations are required a day in advance by calling 232-0808. The meal site is closed on federal holidays.

Monday: Beef and noodles, tossed salad with french dressing, parslied carrots, plums

Tuesday: Swiss steak, tomatoes and onion, baked potato, oriental blend vegetables, fruit

Wednesday: Baked chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, harvard beets, peach fruit crisp

Thursday: Hamburger, whole wheat bun, hashbrowns, baked beans, lettuce leaf with tomato slices, pears

Friday: Pork chop and stuffing with celery sauce, broccoli and cauliflower mix, cranberry sauce, fruit cocktail

Adult day care
