Literary Basket Project helps Storm Lake Library

1:20 PM

STORM LAKE, Iowa --- Friends of the Storm Lake Public Library will host a public reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the library to celebrate the 11th anniversary of its holiday Literary Basket Project that helps the library's various collections and projects.

Wednesday evening is also the last evening that persons can put in a silent bid on the baskets.  There are around 42 baskets this year which are suitable for a wide range of ages.

Each basket is based on a book and the book is included in the basket along with additional items related to the basket's theme. Anyone can bid on as many baskets as they want.

Volunteers and supporters work all year to come up with various books and creative themes and often the baskets are creative themselves. There are minimum bids and, in past years, the minimum bids have been in the $30 to $35 range.

Some of this year's basket themes include "The Road," "Semi-Homemade Cooking," "James and the Giant Peach," "Alfred Hitchcock," "Jimmy Buffet," "Curious George," "The Devil Wears Prada," "Paris, France and Julia Child," "Three Cups of Tea" and "Dewey" (the Spencer, Iowa library cat).

The project has raised around $2,000 each year since its beginning. For more information, call the library at (712) 732-8026.
