Gambling complex approved

DEADWOOD, S.D. (AP) -- The state Gaming Commission has approved a new design and floor plan for a $35 million casino and convention center complex on the northeast side of Deadwood.
The commission rejected the idea of tying 12 buildings together in a mall configuration two years ago, citing inadequate safety measures and unfair competition for other casinos.
A judge overruled the commission, but the design was changed anyway.
The ownership team of Mike, Ryan and Rob Wordeman and Dave Sweet of Sioux Falls decided instead to have separate pods and construction is under way.
The commission vote paves the way for the developers to have 10 separate buildings within the complex.
Under state law, each building in a Deadwood casino can have up to 30 card tables or slot machines.
The project includes city of Deadwood ownership of the convention center.
The surrounding a hotel, casino, restaurant, lounge and water park will be owned by Deadwood Resorts LLC and be named The Lodge at Deadwood.
