SIOUX CITY -- Gary Miller, director of advertising for the Sioux City Journal, will serve as chairperson for the 11th annual June E. Nylen Cancer Center Winter Benefit Feb. 21 at the Marina Inn in South Sioux City.
Miller has served on the committee for the Cancer Center's Winter Benefit for four years and has been selected to chair the signature fundraiser for 2009. The Winter Benefit is the biggest annual fundraising event for the Cancer Center, raising more than $200,000 last year. For the last 10 years, it has been a Mardi Gras-themed party.
"Cancer touches everyone's lives, serving as the chairperson, it gives me an opportunity to give back to this community," said Miller whose professional experience includes 28 years in the newspaper and advertising business. Miller also is involved with the Journal's Mr. Goodfellow Charities and the American Red Cross Tour of Homes. He came to Sioux City from New Orleans five years ago.
Funds raised from this year's benefit will be directed to the mammogram and colonoscopy fund, which pays for these necessary screenings for the underserved and underinsured. For more information, call Pat Hubbard, at (712) 252-9352.
