Sioux Falls hosts Musketeers tonight

The Sioux City Musketeers have played United States Hockey League West Division rivals Omaha, Lincoln and Fargo three times this season.

Tonight, Coach Todd Knott's Musketeers will face off against the Sioux Falls Stampede for the first time, starting at 7:05 at the Sioux Falls Arena. Sioux City (7-10-1), with a victory, will take third place in the West Division because Sioux Falls (7-9-2) has 16 points, one ahead of the Musketeers who are tied with Fargo (7-12-1).

At first glance, the two teams are similar. Each squad has struggled as of late, with Sioux City dropping six of its last seven matches while Sioux Falls has lost four of its last five.

Sioux Falls, which enters with a three-game losing streak has a 55-51 advantage in goals scored. Sioux City is the better defensive squad, allowing 59 goals, eight fewer than the Stampede,

Sioux City broke out of a scoring slump on Thansgiving, skating to a 5-1 win over Fargo, getting goals from five different players, including Stephane DaCosta, who scored for the second straight match. However, Omaha (10-8-2), the highest scoring team in the West with 71 goals, scored a 3-2 win over the Musketeers last Saturday.

Sioux City is paced by DaCosta, a forward who has nine goals and six assists for 15 points. Forward Donnie Halmark, who scored in Saturday's loss, has seven goals and seven assists for 14 points.

Forward Justin Daniels (2 goals, 12 assists), who scored one goal in the Thanksgiving victory, also has 14 points for the Musketeers.

Sioux Falls has a pair of players tied for the team lead with 17 points, forwards David Eddy (7 goals, 10 assists) and Luke Greiner (4 goals, 13 assists). Forward Victor Anilane has five goals and 11 assists for 16 points.

Sioux City will play games on Saturday and Sunday at Fargo.
