With roughly a year and a half to go in her prep athletic career, Carli Tritz has become a first-team Missouri River Activities Conference selection in three sports.

The 5-10 junior outside hitter from Bishop Heelan completed the trifecta by earning first-team honors on the volleyball team selected by MRAC coaches. Tritz won first-team honors as a sophomore on basketball and soccer teams that each competed at the state tournament level.

Tritz, a first-team Class 3A all-state volleyball selection, is one of three from Heelan on the first team, joining 6-1 senior middle blocker Baylee Strachan and 6-foot senior middle blocker Kelsey Tweet.

The trio helped Coach Lori Slight's Crusaders win the league with a 5-0 record. Heelan had a 40-12 mark and ended the season falling in five sets to eventual Class 3A state champion Marion in the semifinals of the state tournament.

East's Emily McCarthy, a 5-10 senior middle blocker, and Brittni Donaldson, a 5-8 sophomore outside hitter from North, also made the first team. Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, second in the MRAC with a 4-1 record, rounded out the first team with outside hitter Emily Olsen and libero Sadie Fahn.

Tritz led Heelan in both kills (277) and digs (702). An honorable mention MRAC selection in 2007, Tritz also provided 67 blocks and 67 ace serves.

Strachan came to Heelan from North, where she won second-team honors a year ago. She was an impact player who led the Crusaders with 136 ace serves. She also recorded 257 kills, 243 digs and 68 blocks.

Tweet paced Heelan with 127 blocks. She ranked third on the team with 239 kills and added 56 ace serves.

East placed third in the MRAC with a 3-2 record and capped a 23-18 season by falling to eventual Class 4A state champion Ankeny in the regional finals.

McCarthy, a second-team selection last year, led Sioux City high school volleyball athletes with 298 kills. She also recorded 230 digs, 69 ace serves and 56 blocks.

North tied with West and Thomas Jefferson for fourth in the league with 1-4 records. The Stars ended a 21-17 campaign falling to East in the regional semifinals.

Donaldson was an honorable mention pick last year and now has a chance to win first-team honors three times in volleyball. She had 270 kills, 175 digs and 113 ace serves for the Stars.

East sophomore setter Melissa Mounts and North senior outside hitter Audrey Erickson each made the second team. Each player jumped from honorable mention honors last year.

East's Brianna Mozer and West's Kendall Downs repeated as honorable mention choices.
