Pierce's Koehlmoos among Northeast Nebraska football all-staters

Posted: Friday, December 12, 2008
Consider the possibilities if Eric Koehlmoos had been healthy this season.

The senior running back from Pierce missed four games with a hamstring pull. Nevertheless, he rushed for 837 yards and helped the Bluejays repeat as the Class C1 Nebraska state football champion.

Koehlmoos is one of three talented running backs from Northeast Nebraska who won first-team honors as the Nebraska Associated Press released its All-State teams in the state's six classes.

Justin Hart of Laurel-Concord and Hartington Cedar Catholic's Chad Koch were each first-teamers in Class C2. Both players topped the 1,000-yard rushing mark, as Hart played for a squad that went 7-4 and advanced to the playoffs quarterfinals while Koch's team went 8-2 and ended their season in the second round.

Koch, in fact, bettered 1,000 yards for the second straight season.

Pierce, which has gone 25-1 the last two seasons, also put lineman Lee Krohn on the first-team C1 offense. The Bluejays were represented on the first-team defense by lineman Kyle Stuchlik and back Tony Lauters.

Norfolk Catholic lineman Garrett Rockey and punter Tyler Dakke make the C1 first-team defense.

Laurel-Concord defensive lineman Arik Diediker was placed on the C2 first-team defense while Bancroft-Rosalie lineman Blake Reil made the first-team Class D1 offense.

Bloomfield's Holliday Quezada made the first-team D2 offense as a lineman while Allen's Scott Wilmes was a first-team defensive back.

South Sioux City placed offensive/defensive lineman Mike Munson and wide receiver/safety Taylor Rogers on the Class B honorable mention list.

Munson and Rogers were also honorable mention selections from the Lincoln Journal-Star, while the Omaha World-Herald chose Rogers, Munson and running back/linebacker Adam Bobier on its honorable mention list.

South Sioux City's Jordan Schmidt and Dustin Billups each claimed academic all-state honors.
