Blood Bank promotion thanks donors

SIOUX CITY -- The Siouxland Community Blood Bank is kicking off the New Year with a promotion, "New Year, New You," to thank donors for their commitment to saving Siouxland lives in 2009.
During the month of January, anyone who registers to donate blood at the blood bank at 1019 Jones St. or any mobile blood drive in Sioux City, South Sioux City, North Sioux City or Sergeant Bluff automatically will be entered into a drawing to win a prize.
Prizes include one-month gym memberships and tanning packages. The Siouxland Y, Transit Plaza Fitness and Tanning, Anytime Fitness and Curves for Women have provided the prizes.
"Not only does 'New Year, New You' reflect the gratitude that the Siouxland Community Blood Bank and Siouxland patients feel towards the donors, it also gives a boost to donors who may have traditional New Year’s resolutions such as getting in shape," said Jan Twait, CEO of the Siouxland Community Blood Bank. "Our blood donors give freely of themselves so that we may reach our goals to save many lives in Siouxland, why not help them to reach their 2009 goals?"
Prizes will be given away each day the Siouxland Community Blood Bank is open during the month of January. Winners will be notified the following day. The Siouxland Community Blood Bank is the sole supplier of blood products and related services to 37 hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, including Mercy Medical Center-Sioux City, St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center and the Siouxland Surgery Center.
{M3 To be eligible to donate, individuals must be at least 17 years of age (16 with a Siouxland Community Blood Bank signed parent consent form); however, there is no upper age limit as long as the donor is in good health. In addition donors need to weigh at least 110 pounds and have not donated whole blood in the last 56 days. A photo I.D. is required at the time of registration as well as a list of any medications donors are currently taking.
