Same-sex marriage should be protected

SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- I found Brent Hoffman’s opinion in the Dec. 21 Journal, headlined "Marriage: a one man, one woman institution," to be historically short-sighted and lacking relevant facts.
Mr. Hoffman suggests only marriage between a man and a woman reflects “civilized history, public law and common sense” here in America. Same-sex marriage is legal in Canada, Spain, Belgium, Norway, South Africa and Nepal. Does Mr. Hoffman suggest that those countries are uncivilized and void of common sense?
Mr. Hoffman also stated that marriage between one man and one woman is an “institution” and “serves as the bedrock for American society.” The Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution make no mention of marriage period. The founding fathers did not define marriage in the Constitution because they valued individual liberty over religious bigotry. By definition, divorce is considered an institution since it is a significant practice like marriage. So much for institutions.
Mr. Hoffman believes homosexuality is not a civil rights issue. I disagree. Homosexuality has been prevalent throughout human history. Many cultures were and still are accepting of the practice. Homosexuality will never go away. However, in many Middle Eastern and African countries, homosexuality is a crime punishable by death or life in prison. This is a human rights issue. Here in the United States, 15 percent of hate crimes are based on perceived sexual orientation. Is this ill treatment of gay people what we in America want to continue? I believe not. Everyone seems to be getting bored with the Homosexual Agenda and all of the paid-for advocates who are pushing it on everybody. Let's see - everybody is bored - being pushed and propagandized. You would think the Homosexuals would get bored too. But the Agenda won't let them - will it?
So, we slop through more weeks of trivial lies from the Left. It's like a wasteland here. Where's the beef? No Big lies from well paid propaganda jerks, spreading the prescribed fodder around in all the newspaper sites like they did during the elections. For the democrats to point at, and tell their slaves - “Look at that! You see, they say the same things we say! We must be right!”
