SIOUX CITY -- A rural Lawton, Iowa, man accused of locking his two children in a room without food or water is scheduled to change his plea in Woodbury County District Court.
Greg Jolley, 42, was set to stand trial Jan. 13 on two counts of neglect of a dependant person, but according to Monday court filings, a plea taking and sentencing will now take place on Jan. 12.
Last week, a Woodbury County judge sentenced Jolley's wife, Kimberly Jolley, to three consecutive five-year sentences. She pleaded guilty to two counts of child endangerment causing bodily injury for allowing Greg Jolley to beat his two children. Her guilty plea, as well as her admission of a probation violation, was part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.
Court documents say Greg Jolley is also accused of hitting his 12-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son with a belt even though they were already bruised.
Officials said the girl escaped from a second-floor room in the family home Aug. 8 by prying away a plywood window covering, walking along a ledge and sliding to the ground. She let her brother out and they pulled a sled piled with their belongings to a neighbor's house.
