Iowans could lose licenses for debt delinquency
Posted: Tuesday, January 06, 2009
DES MOINES -- Iowans could have their hunting and fishing licenses yanked if they have any outstanding court fines, tax debt or fines with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
Hunting and fishing licenses, as well as licenses required to perform certain occupations such as medicine and cosmetology, can be suspended under the law, which was approved during the last legislative session.
The policy will be enforced beginning in early February, said Wayne Cooper, manager of the central collections unit of the Iowa Department of Revenue.
The central collections unit will send letters to citizens who owe money, requiring them to make payment arrangements. Licensees will then have 20 days to respond or their licenses can be suspended.
"It's just another tool, I think, to help encourage people to pay their taxes in a timely fashion," Cooper said.
Licenses affected
Among the license types that could be affected by the law are: Accountants (CPAs and LPAs), architects, attorneys, barbers, beauticians, chiropractors, cosmetologists, dentists, electricians, fishing licenses, hunting licenses, investigators, massage therapists, medical doctors, podiatrists, nurses, pharmacists, security guards, teachers and veterinarians. This is not a complete list of those affected.

Dog 'em, hound 'em, persue 'em, be a real bean counter when it comes to the citizen but turn a blind eye and give illegal aliens the red carpet and a pass on the millions of dollars they cost Iowa. Shameful. Period. "
