SIOUX CITY -- Sioux City's 2009 Mardi Gras celebration begins today with a free Twelfth Night Celebration at Court Street Tavern.
Festivities will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and will include a menu of gumbo and jambalaya at the tavern, at 2106 Court St.
Anyone who would like to know more about Krewe de Charlie Sioux and its Sister City relationship with Lake Charles, La., is invited to stop by, said Julie Peterson, Krewe captain. New members are welcome.
The nonprofit group, made up of about 35 Sioux City residents and about 40 from Lake Charles, puts on the annual Mardi Gras show in Sioux City. This year's Mardi Gras Gala and Big Parade are set for July 2 and 3.
Local Krewe members will travel to Lake Charles on Feb. 20 for a Louisiana Mardi Gras celebration.
For more information, call Peterson at (712) 279-4800.
