Briar Cliff will host South Dakota poet laureate

SIOUX CITY -- Briar Cliff University will host a poetry reading by South Dakota Poet Laureate David Allan Evans,at 7 p.m. Jan. 14 in Meis Recital Hall in Heelan Hall on the Briar Cliff campus. The reading is free and open to the public.
A Sioux City native, Evans is the author of numerous books of poetry and non-fiction, including "Bull Rider’s Advice: New and Selected Poems." He has twice been appointed a Fulbright scholar to China where he and his wife, Jan, lived and taught for two years.
Now retired and living in Sioux Falls, Evans was professor of English and writer-in-residence at South Dakota State University for many years. His father, Arthur Evans, was a self-educated writer and scholar who was a pressman at the Sioux City Journal most of his life.
