Nominations accepted for Women of Excellence

SIOUX CITY -- The 25th annual Women of Excellence Awards Banquet will be held March 24 at the Sioux City Convention Center.

Sponsored by Women Aware, the awards recognize women whose strength of character, tenacity, and personal growth has enabled them to affect change and progress in the Siouxland community.

Women Aware offers the Women of Excellence Awards in seven categories: "Women Pursuing Truth" honors leadership, knowledge, and perseverance; "Women Striving to Improve the Quality of Life" honors women who lead others to greater understanding and respect for themselves and the world in which they live; "Women Taking Risks" recognizes courage and strength of character; "Women Creating Art" pays tribute to creativity in the arts; "Women Helping Women" recognizes the accomplishments of those who work to assist other women.

The newest category, "Women Developing the Community," recognizes the special impact of community leadership. This new category honors women who identify a community need then generate solutions and resources to meet that need, such as the creation of a new organization, facility or event.

The final category, "Young Women of Excellence," honors young women, ages 22 to 40, who have exhibited excellence in their contributions to society.

Nominations will be accepted in all seven categories through March 3. The application fee per nomination is $40. To obtain application forms and/or additional information, contact Women Aware at (712) 258-4174 or download it from the Web site, www.womenawarescia.org. Applications must be returned to Women Aware: 520 Nebraska St., Suite 237, Sioux City, Iowa  51101. 

Tickets for the banquet are $35.

Women Aware is a United Way of Siouxland agency that helps single parents and displaced homemakers become self-sufficient.
