SIOUX CITY -- For the second time this week, a judge has been asked to delay a murder trial scheduled to begin on Tuesday.

Woodbury County Public Defender Michael Williams filed a motion at 3:05 p.m. today asking for more time to review handwritten notes from a psychiatric evaluation of Lawrence Douglas Harris.

He says Dr. Tracy Gunter of St. Louis University, an expert witness for the state, took the notes while interviewing Harris for the evaluation.

Harris, 26, faces two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his two stepdaughters, Kendra Suing, 10, and Alysha Suing, 8.

According to court documents filed today, Williams also was unable to complete a deposition of Gunter and expects another four hours will be necessary.

District Court Judge James D. Scott hasn't ruled on today's request or scheduled a hearing to hear arguments about the proposed delay.

Earlier this week, Scott denied a joint request from prosecutors and defense attorneys to delay to trial so they could obtain raw data from tests performed on Harris at the University of Iowa.

Jury selection for Harris' trial is scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
