Storm could bring strong winds

SIOUX CITY -- A winter storm carrying 25 to 40 mph sustained winds will bring up to 2 inches of snow to much of Siouxland by this afternoon and could dump 4 inches in Northwest Iowa.
The snow should start falling after midnight with much of the area receiving an inch and a half of snow by morning, Jim Murray, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, said Sunday night. Then the area should receive another half inch during the day. The winds should pick up in the afternoon with gusts of 50 mph.
The main part of the storm should track from Brookings, S.D., into southern Minnesota. The only county in Iowa under a blizzard watch is Lyon County. Southeast South Dakota is in the winter weather advisory area, like much of Siouxland, he said.
"We could see 4 inches in Osceolo, Clay and even Dickinson counties," Murray said. "We're not expecting enough snow to qualify for a real blizzard."
