Feb 17, 2012 at 8:30 am

Six people face a combination of drug, alcohol or disorderly conduct charges after allegedly scaring a Storm Lake convenience store clerk by screaming at the clerk and reportedly "performing a native African dance and chant."

The Storm Lake Police Department said in a press release that officers were dispatched at 2:36 a.m. Feb. 11 to a report of a disturbance at Dyno's Store, 1201 East Lakeshore Drive.

Police say five people who allegedly performed the African dance and chant were intoxicated and one of them, Herve Sebera, 23, of Sioux City, had a small amount of marijuana.

Sebera was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and public intoxication. All are misdemeanors.

Police say officers arrested a sixth person, Frank Rugaruko, 22, of Storm Lake, after he yelled at them and was belligerent outside the store. While Rugaruko was arrested, he allegedly tried to throw marijuana under the police vehicle.

Crime Watch: Mink case yields courtroom surprise

Feb 09, 2012 at 8:04 am

A sentencing hearing for two Texans accused of attempting to set mink free from a Sioux City fur ranch produced an unexpected courtroom drama last week.

Victor Vanorden, 24, and Kellie Marshal, 22, were both expected to plead guilty Feb. 2 for charges related to the Oct. 10 incident near Stone State Park.

Police say Vanorden and Marshal, both of Austin, cut fences in an effort to free mink from same farm where approximately 5000 mink were released in 1997. The incident Oct. 10 came on the heels of the surreptitious release of more than 1200 mink release three days earlier at a farm in Jewel, Iowa.

Vanorden and Marshal entered the courtroom Thursday facing multiple charges, although both had already entered into plea agreements with prosecutors. However, the plea agreements did not stipulate whether Vanorden or Marshal would face prison or probation in exchange for their pleas.

Kneifl, of Yankton, S.D., flew to Seattle last week, in part, to gain a sense of closure from a fleeting confrontation his family had with Harris-Moore in their home on June 18, 2010.

He and his wife, Lisa, and some of their younger children surprised a naked Harris-Moore when they returned home from vacation in the dead of the night. Kelly Kneifl chased him through the house, but retreated when Harris-Moore, then 19, yelled that he had a gun.

"Obviously, he had a big impact on me and our family, my wife and our children, and I've followed his story now for quite a while," Kneifl said.
