The Siouxland Community Blood Bank recently honored employees for their years of service, including Vicki Miller, who is celebrating 40 years of employment with the organization.
Miller began her career with the blood bank as a laboratory medical technologist working at the former location on Pierce Street. Her responsibilities at that time included drawing donors and performing the required tests for transfusion. She is currently a testing technologist - medical technologist and is responsible for testing of blood and components within the lab.
When Miller began her career, the bood bank served five hospitals in the region. The requirements to donate blood at that time mandated that donors be 18 years old. Now, the blood bank serves 37 hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota and donors as young as 16 years old are eligible to donate.
Other employees that were honored for their years of service included Brad Barta, CFO, 15 years; Anjeanette Barto, director of collections, 10 years; Pete Hittle, hospital services driver, 5 years; Arend Schreuer, hospital services driver, 5 years; Larry Twait, hospital services driver, 5 years; Heather Marreel, director of recruitment, 5 years; and Michelle Willer, collections supervisor, 5 years.
