Morningside hosts piano recital series

Morningside College will host a number of performers for its 2009-2010 Piano Recital Series.

Performing are:

-- James and Kathryn March, duo pianists, Oct. 27

-- Denis Evstuhin, pianist, Nov. 18

-- Studzinski Trio, Feb. 6, 2010

-- Robert Auler, pianist, March 10, 2010

-- Feilin Lin, pianist, April 7, 2010

The Marches have held positions in the Morningside College Music Department since 1986. The March Duo has toured under the auspices of the South Carolina, South Dakota and Iowa Arts Councils. They have been broadcast on National Public Radio.

Russian pianist Evstuhin has appeared on radio and television in Russia, Europe and the U.S. Evstuhin's competition prizes include the first prize at the Iowa International Piano Competition in Sioux City in 2009. He is currently pursuing a D.M.A. in Piano Performance at the University of Minnesota.

The Studzinski Trio from The Eastman School of Music are: Amy Yi, violinist; Stephanie March, cellist; and Tian Tian, pianist.

Korean-born Yi recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southern California, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. She is completing her Master of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music.

Stephanie March, from Sioux City, began studying the cello at age 3. At age 12, she auditioned and was hired as the youngest member of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra. March, 19, is a junior and one of the Roger's Scholars at the Eastman School of Music.

Tian is a doctoral candidate at the Eastman School of Music. In 2009, the Shandong Teacher's University and the Yunnan Institute for the Arts invited Tian to give a series of recitals, lectures and master classes.

Auler is an award-winning American concert pianist who maintains a national and international performing career. He is entering his seventh year as piano professor at SUNY Oswego.

Lin is currently the director of Feilin Lin's School of Piano in Iowa City. As a performer, she has appeared in solo and concerto performances throughout Taiwan, Austria, Italy, Malaysia, the Philippines, and the United States.

All performance are at 7:30 p.m. in Eppley Auditorium, 3625 Garretson Ave. There is no charge for the Oct. 27 concert. General admission for the other presentations is $15; students are free with an ID. For information call 274-5210.
