Ordination service

The friends of Living Water Evangelical Free Church in South Sioux City invite the public to Pastor Ryan Johnson's Ordination Worship Service at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 15 at the church, 3900 Dakota Ave., Suite 10. Bill Smith, EFCA Midwest District superintendent, will speak. Dinner will follow the service.

Johnson comes to the area from a farm in Stromsburg, Neb. and was called to the pastorate in the spring of 2007, while a missionary in Mexico City. He received his Master of Divinity Degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Ill. in 2003.

Wonder of it all

Dr. Ron Knapp, minister emeritus of the First Unitarian Church of Omaha, will speak at 11 a.m. Sunday at the First Unitarian Church, 2508 Jackson St. The title of his address, from Lao Tzu, is "From Wonder Unto Wonder Existence Opens." It deals with science, religion and wonder.

Fall & Christmas Bazaar

The annual Fall & Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale at Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Ave., will be held from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Nov. 14. Lunch will be served from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Homemade items include sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, baby items, wood items, holiday items, artwork, greeting cards, candy, baked goods and applie pies Jewelry repair is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Birth of Baha'u'llah

Siouxland Baha'is will join fellow believers around the world in celebrating the brith of Baha'u'llah, the faith's founder, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Alan and Marie Scheffer, 217 Paxton St., The event will consist of a devotional progam with music and a "birthday party fr Baha'u'llah."

Baga'u'llah was born in Teheran, Iran in 1817.

Annual Men's Day

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its Annual Men's Day Sunday with this year's theme, "When Thou Art Converted." The first service begins at 8:15 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Floyd E. Brown. pastor of Mt. Zion, delivering the message. Morning service begins at 10:45 a.m. with guest pastor the Rev. Gregory Ashley of St. Johns Baptist Church, Omaha.

Catholic Daughters

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court AVe Maria 269 will meet for a 5:30 p.m. Mass Wednesday at Nativity Catholic Church. A memorial service will precede the Mass. A potluck dinner will follow, with members whose names begin M-Z bringing the food.

Tabernacle COGIC events

The Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 610 Center St., will hold a bake sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, with all the favorites -- cakes, pies, cookies, etc.

The Annual Choir Day Service wil be 3 p.m. Sunday, with lots of singing and a special speaker.

Veteran's Day Appreciation

On Wednesday, all veterans and current members of the Armed Forces in Siouxland and their spouses are invited to a Veteran's Day Appreciation at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3204 S. Lakeport St. Hot dogs, chips and all the trimmings, along with sugar copies will be the menu at 5 p.m. at the gym. At 6 p.m., U.S. Navy Chapain Michael Moreno will deliver the devotion, alng with a student band and patriotic hymn sing. Color guards of the Boy Scouts and the 185th Iowa Air National guard will be in attendance. Mementos will be given to each Armed Forces member present.

Diana's Angels

A compassionate group called Diana's Angels that is starting in Siouxland will meet Saturday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall of Redemer Lutheran Church for a brunch and workday at the lower level. Interested individuals are invited to attend.

Helpers are needed. Diana's Angels sew baby outfits and crochet booties and blankets for burial for babies in Siouxland. Start-up patterns and packets are available for take-home. Prayers are also needed for those families affected by such a tragedy and for those who make this project so meaningful. Seamstresses are needed to sew the kimonos, sleepers, jumpsuits and dresses -- and money to purchase the materials.
