WEST BRANCH, Iowa -- The deadline for submitting an application for the 13th annual Herbert Hoover Uncommon Student Award, a scholarship for Iowa high school juniors, is March 31.
Students chosen will receive a $1,000 award, and there are three $5,000 scholarships awarded for study at an accredited two- or four-year college or university anywhere in the country.
The award program seeks to identify uncommon students during their junior year and students are not evaluated on the basis or grades, test scores, essays or financial need, a news release issued Friday said.
Applicants need to submit a proposal for a project they want to accomplish. About 15 students are selected each year.
