According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, hand sanitizers are effective against bacterial-borne illnesses, but not against viruses. H1N1, other strains of flu, and some pneumonias are viral. Know the facts. Use of sanitizer can't hurt, that is unless it promotes a too wide sense of false security in action. Ask a nurse, medical doctor or biology teacher.
