LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - The state's firearm deer season opens today and runs through Nov. 23.

Nebraska Game and Parks officials predict hunters will have a good chance to take trophy whitetail or mule deer bucks this year.

Nebraska's deer population is exploding, and there have been complaints about crop damage and car-deer collisions.

Game and Parks officials say hunters should always get permission to hunt on private land and make sure they know what's behind their target when shooting.
