The kids are headed back to school today and that means motorists need to pay extra attention to safety today and Friday
Speaking at the city manager's weekly news conference on Wednesday, Police Officer Mark Huberty said officers will be closely monitoring traffic around the schools. He urged parents who want to park their cars and go into school with their child to park on a side street and that other drivers pay attention to no parking signs in drop-off areas. He suggested people leave home early to avoid the worst congestion.

Huberty warned that children will be excited and may not be paying attention to traffic as they should. He further urged drivers to be especially alert to crosswalks, one-way entrances and exits on school grounds and to children darting out into traffic.

He also had a reminder: The speed limit is 25 mph in school zones.
