Semis collide in southern Iowa near Ainsworth

AINSWORTH (AP) --- Weather is being blamed for a two-semi accident involving a Dysart nan in Washington County Wednesday moning that injured the other driver.

The Iowa State Patrol said the accident happened on HIghway 218 near Ainsworth.

Troopers said a semi tractor trailer driven by Daniel Thomas Murphy, 47, of Dysart, was southbound on Highway 218 in the inside lane when a semi driven by Edward J. Smith, 46, of Wentzville, Mo., was in the outside lane and lost control and went broadside into the front of Murphy's truck.

Murphy's semi hit Smith's in the passenger side door. Smith was injured in the accident and taken to University Hospitals in Iowa City. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt.

The accident remains under investigation, but troopers said it was weather related.
