LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Judicial officials aren't ready to say if western Nebraska will get a replacement for a county judge set to retire.

A judicial commission is set to meet June 8 to decide whether it needs to fill the 12th Judicial District spot or move it elsewhere in the state.

In March, Judge James Hansen announced his plans to retire. He has held the judgeship since 1986, serving primarily the northern Nebraska Panhandle.

The upcoming hearing will be held from the state Capitol, but video conferencing will link in sites in Hastings, Omaha and Scottsbluff so more people have a chance to comment.

After the hearing, the commission will make a recommendation to the Legislature.
