SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- The South Sioux City Public Library will celebrate National Gaming Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 14. National Gaming Day is sponsored by the American Library Association.

Read, Learn, Play is the theme for National Gaming Day. The library participates in National Gaming Day because in the 21st century libraries are about much more than books. Gaming of all types at the library encourages young patrons to interact with a diverse group of peers, share their expertise with others, including adults, and develop new strategies for gaming and learning.

During National Gaming Day participants at the South Sioux City Public Library will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of family games: Risk, Clue, Life, Chutes and Ladders, Candy Land, Ants in the Pants and Cootie to name a few. Several chess boards will also be available for patrons to play throughout the day.

The library will offer special game tournaments during the day. At 10 a.m. the library will hold a Sudoku tournament. A crossword tournament will begin at 1 p.m. . Sign-up begins 30 minutes before each competition. Prizes will be awarded for each tournament.

The library is at 2121 Dakota Ave. For more information, call 402-494-7545.

A variety of electronic video games will be available for patrons to play. (Expert advice will be provided). Players will also have the opportunity to learn games from around the world.
