ATKINS, Iowa (AP) - A Cedar Rapids woman and her fiance have died after the car they were in crashed into a creek near Atkins, just east of Cedar Rapids.

The Iowa State Patrol says 28-year-old Andrea Andrews lost control of her car on U.S. Highway 30 late Saturday afternoon. The car flipped over and came to rest upside down in several feet of water in Morgan Creek.

A Benton County sheriff's deputy who saw the accident was unable to free Andrews and a 26-year-old David Wadhams, of Cedar Rapids, who was a passenger in the car.

It took at least 20 minutes for a tow truck to pull the car from the river.

Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene. Wadhams died at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
