BETTENDORF (AP) -- Bettendorf schools Superintendent Marty Lucas, formerly superintendent in Charles City, has resigned in an agreement with the district that resolves a dispute spurred by his second arrest on drunken driving charges.

The agreement announced Wednesday calls for Lucas to resign effective July 15. The deal includes payments of $25,000 from the school district and $24,000 from the district"s insurance company.

Lucas was hired as superintendent in 2005. He was put on paid administrative leave in June in response to his Feb. 28 arrest on charges of driving while intoxicated.

The school district last year had an enrollment of about 4,400.
