LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - More than 330 Nebraska youths are being honored by the secretary of state for serving as election workers on Nov. 4.

The 333 young people were part of the Youth Election Service program, which is designed to increase interest and involvement among youths ages 14 to 18.

Participants helped in 36 counties, working more than 1,580 hours. All will receive a recognition certificate from Secretary of State John Gale, and ten were awarded a $50 savings bond. The winners were picked in geographical drawings.

The number of participants for the 2008 general election was a record for the program, which started in the November 2004 general election. It operates for the statewide primary and general elections every two years.
