The Sioux City York Rite Association celebrated the 100th year of Zadok Council 24 with a banquet honoring Sioux City's Richard W. Martin, Grand Master of the Council of Royal and Select Masters of Iowa. The Chef's unit from the Abu Bekr Shrine prepared the banquet meal and the Shrine Oriental Band performed at one of the sessions.
Nine candidates from three states received conferred degrees during the festival.
Also honored were Jason Wolcott and Wade Scheeler, who were presented the Gold Award by Grand Governor Berdette O. Bryngleson of the York Rite College of Iowa.
Martin, a Sioux City native who saved in the U.S. Navy Seabees, has been working in the construction trades as an electrician. He has four children.
He started his Masonic career at the North Esk Marinum 1676 in Laurenancekirk, Scotland, while he was in the Navy. He completed his degree work in Sioux City and served as Master of Triangle Lodge in 2002 as well as High Priest of Sioux City Chapter the same year. In 2002 and 2003, he served as Illustrious Master of Zadok Council and Commander of Columbian Commandery 18. He has received many awards during his Masonic career. He is also a member of the Sioux City Scottish Rite and in 2009 he served as Governor of Lewis and Clark 199 York Rite College.
