Dannika Ann Nash, a senior at West High School, has been selected Student of the Month for October by the Downtown Rotary Club.
Nash, the daughter of David and Shelly Nash, has been active in school and her community.
Academically, Nash has received a 3.9 grade point average with a class rank of sixth out of 250.
Her school activities, honors and leadership positions consist of cross country where she was captain her senior year; debate, where she was a state finalist in Public Forum her junior year; and track. She has been involved in choir, jazz choir, spring musical, fall play, Transitions, freshman mentoring, and large group speech, attending All State her freshman year.
Nash has been on the Student Council, (secretary her senior year). She was secretary her junior year and is president her senior year of the National Honor Society. She was Homecoming Queen.
Nash's volunteer activities have included Mayor's Youth Commission and Teen Court. She has been involved in Church Worship Band and on mission trips. She was selected to the National Council of Youth Leadership.
Opus Honor Choir
Bishop Heelan High School freshmen, Maria Lohr and Allie Saulsbury, were recently selected for participation in the 23rd annual Opus Honor Choir Festival.
The 2009 Opus Honor Choirs will perform at 4 p.m. Nov. 19 in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center, Ames, Iowa.
Guest conductors of the choirs include Carole Kettwick, 5th and 6th Grade Elementary Honor Choir; Andrew Last, 7th and 8th Grade Boys Honor Choir; Beth Mueller, 7th and 8th Grade Girls Honor Choir; and June Schmidt, 9th Grade Mixed Honor Choir.
