LE MARS, Iowa -- A Sioux City man was sentenced Thursday to up to 10 years in prison in connection with a Akron, Iowa, man's death from a prescription drug overdose.

Stuart Edward Barton, 39, pleaded guilty Thursday in Plymouth County District Court to two counts of delivery of methadone.

Barton was arrested in May, along with Justin Paul Bringman, 18, of Akron after a four-month investigation into the suspicious death of Nicholas Francis Clay, 20, who was unresponsive when he was found Jan. 21 at a friend's house in Akron. Officials have said Clay died of prescription medication that was "illegally obtained."

Bringman pleaded guilty in August to charges of involuntary manslaughter and delivery of a controlled substance -- methadone. He was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

District Court Judge John D. Ackerman sentenced Barton to an indeterminate period of incarceration not to exceed 10 years on each charge. The prison terms will be served at the same time. Barton must pay $150,000 in restitution to Clay's estate.

Barton is required to turn himself in to the Plymouth County Jail on Nov. 19.
