SIOUX CITY -- The City Council took action on the following items Monday:

WWTP: On a 4-1 vote, approved a sewage treatment agreement with South Sioux City to increase the amount treated at the regional Wastewater Treatment Plant from 2 million galls per day to 2.29 million gallons, a 15 percent increase. Councilman Brent Hoffman cast the lone dissenting vote.

Bus Service: Approved annual contract to provide transportation services to South Sioux City through the Sioux City Transit System. South Sioux City has agreed to pay $66,359 a year, the same paid this year. The transit system also receives $227,939 from the Federal Transit Administration to help pay for bus service to South Sioux City.

GSA Building: Approved option agreements with two developers interesting in building a two-story office building for the General Services Administration in Expedition Business Park near Sioux Gateway Airport. The GSA may select or reject the proposals -- from LGK Development, Inc., Boulder, Colo., or from Sioucessa Venture LLC, Rock Island, Ill.

Downtown Traffic Signals: Awarded a contract with Lan-Tel Communications, Independence, Mo., for $679,122 for the Downtown Traffic Control System Rehabilitaton Project.

Transit Trail: Awarded a contract to Concrete Speciality, Inc., South Sioux City, for $160,519 to build the Transit Avenue Trial. The low bid was 32 percent below the engineer's estimate of $237,000. The trail should be completed by Oct. 15, 2010.

Purchases: Approved a purchase order with Northern Water Works Supply, Blaine, Minn., for $44,960 to buy 562 Neptune R900 radio V3 units for the meter shop.

Fire Grant: Authorized Sioux City Fire Rescue to submit a 2009 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant application for $30,210 to buy computer software for the department's mobile data terminals. The goal is to put mobile data terminals on 15 fire vehicles. The software will be used during fire inspections to allow firefighters to type their reports and for emergency responses.
