NORFOLK, Neb. -- A man who fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II will present the Veterans Day program at Northeast Community College on Wednesday.
Stan Lambert will speak at 10 a.m. in the Cox Activities Center Theater. The program, which will also include patriotic music, is free and open to the public.
Lambert was drafted into the Army in May 1943 and shipped overseas as a rifleman in the 70th Infantry Division. Lambert's unit was sent to a secondary breakthrough in the Battle of the Bulge. He was on the point of an advance that was ambushed, and many of his closest comrades were killed. Lambert was captured and held as a prisoner of war in Germany for more than four months.
After the war, Lambert received an agriculture degree from the University of Nebraska and returned to the family farm. He has served on many church and community boards and has served as a local, district and state American Legion officer.
