4 died on northern Iowa roadways on Saturday

COLUMBUS JUNCTION --- Four people have died in two separate accidents in Iowa Saturday.

The latest accident occurred about 9:15 p.m. in Louisa County near Columbus Junction.

It killed Jacob R. Haines, 22, of Mount Pleasant, and Darby B. Gilbert, 17, of Libertyville. A third occupant in the car, Kyle F. Allen, 19, of Sperry, was seriously injured and taken by air ambulance to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

The Iowa State Patrol said Haines was the driver of the vehicle. It was soutbound on County Road W66 when he lost control. The car went into a ditch, struck a culvert at the intersection of 115th Street and vaulted over the road and struck a barn.

The other double fatality occurred about 2:50 p.m. in Page County in southwest Iowa. In that accident two people on a go-cart were killed when they came out of a residential driveway and into the path of a car on Q Avenue.

The names of those killed have not yet been released.
