IDA GROVE, Iowa -- Dale Jenkins, 60, of Ida Grove died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ida Grove, with the Revs. David Hemann and Timothy Friedrichsen officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion McNamara-Moore Post 61. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Scripture service Monday evening at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove. Born Dec. 28, 1948, in Denison, Iowa, Dale Alan Jenkins was the son of Rule and Dorothy (Linden) Jenkins. He grew up and received his education in Kiron, Iowa, and Denison. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard during the Vietnam era. At the age of 17, he began driving truck with his brother-in-law, Wayne Baker. Over the years, he drove for many trucking firms including Crouse Cartage Company, Mau Trucking, Farmland, Gregg Goodenow Trucking and Wal-Mart.

He married Diane (Glassel) Hansen in June 3, 1988, in Ida Grove. The couple provided foster care for 71 teenage girls.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed NASCAR, golfing, Iowa Hawkeye football and spending time with his grandchildren. He touched many people's lives and will be fondly remembered for his kind and giving heart, his sense of humor and for his sensitive and caring nature.

Survivors include his wife, Diane; three children, Brooke (Joshua) Cisco of Jackson, Mo., Corey (Christa) Hansen of Kansas City, Mo., and Malana Hansen of Ida Grove; four grandchildren, Ethan Cisco of Jackson, Mo., Dakota Richey and Caden Hansen, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Trenton Eilerts of Ida Grove; a brother, Ronnie Jenkins of Denison, Iowa; two sisters, Rena (Carroll) Skarin of Denison, and Sharon (Wayne) Baker of Kiron, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family members and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Doug and Joan Glassel; and a brother-in-law, John Glassel.
