IDA GROVE, Iowa -- Ashley Zobel tallied 23 points and Christine Bloyer added 19 as OA-BCIG one its first-ever varsity girls basketball game, smashing Class 4A Waterloo East 76-27 Friday night.
With three starters each returning from teams that both lost regional finals last season at Odebolt-Arthur and Battle Creek-Ida Grove, the Falcons of Coach Pat Miller bolted to a 20-4 first-quarter lead and a 38-12 halftime bulge.
No. 3 in Class 2A in preseason ratings released Thursday, OA-BCIG returns Zobel, a 5-9 junior guard, along with 5-11 junior Katie Kallin and 5-11 sophomore Jessie Pauley from the starting five of an 18-4 BCIG team. Meanwhile, seniors Bloyer, Jessica Neumann and Morgan Olerich all return from O-A's 16-8 squad.
The Falcons play a Saturday night jamboree in Storm Lake and then visit Storm Lake, No. 10 in Class 3A, for a regular season contest on Tuesday.

Storm Lake 78, East Sac County 58
STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Cassie Meylor scored 19 points for 10th-ranked (Class 3A) Storm Lake, which opened the season with a 78-58 win over East Sac County Friday night.
Morgan Vander Sloot and Jordan Bauer added 14 and 11 points, respectively, for the Tornadoes, who opened with a 20-2 first-quarter lead.
